Give a High-Five To Help African AIDS Orphans

Africa is beset by the plague of HIV/AIDS, and every year, hundreds of thousands of children become orphans due to this disease. Family Health International has a website up that allows you to “give a high five” to help African children whose parents have died due to HIV/AIDS. Donate five dollars, give a high five to five of your friends and encourage them to do the same. A little donation goes a long way to helping kids in Africa live better lives.
Mosquito Splat!
Mosquito Splat is an online, flash-based game accessed via Facebook. In it, the goal is to swat as many mosquitoes as possible before they infect the baby on the screen with malaria. Developed in partnership by the McLaughlin-Rotman Centre for Global Health at the University of Toronto and the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets Campaign, for every one hundred points scored, the game’s advertisers will give money to Malaria research at the National Institute for Medical Research in Tanzania.

The land consists of thorns, dust, and and desolation where once wonderful grazing land thrived. The slideshow highlights families’ searches for water in a land that depends on the rainy seasons that haven’t come in recent years.

Kwikpoint is a company that creates simple and essential visual communication tools to provide those who work in the humanitarian, health and emergency professions with the ability to communicate across language barriers. For example, a TB Smart Card, created with University Research Co., details the sputum collection procedure for tuberculosis testing. Ipas, sanofi pasteur and UNFPA have also used Kwikpoint to create useful information guides for the field.
Lacrosse the Nations
Lacrosse the Nations is a non-profit that uses lacrosse and the fun of sport to encourage hope and to inspire unity and joy in impoverished places around the world. Lacrosse the Nations brings the North American sport of Lacrosse to impoverished towns and villages in order to teach the game, have fun with kids, and build up important life skills such as self esteem, self confidence, and to provide an environment in which the young kids growing up in these poverty-stricken conditions have the opportunity to forget their troubles for a while.
